The beauties of Calabria with Hotel Perla del Porto

The Best Western Plus Hotel Perla del Porto enjoys a priviliged location directly over the sea and in front of the small tourist harbour of Catanzaro Lido. It is at the center of the splendid Gulf of Squillace, an ideal destination for those who long for the sea, a relaxing atmosphere and breathtaking views.

At just a few kilometers from the hotel we find the Scolacium archeological park in Roccelletta di Borgia, a marriage between ancient Greek and Roman ruins that includes a forum, statues, the ancient theater, and the basilica, which hosts music, theater and art shows during the summer.

In downtown Catanzaro, it is possible to visit the MARCA (Museo delle Arti di Catanzaro) and the MUSMI (Museo Storico Militare Brigata Catanzaro), both of which offer permanent exhibitions. The Complesso Monumentale del San Giovanni is another venue that hosts international art exhibits and entertainment and fashion events.

Mountain and sea, flora and fauna: a trip in the territory

The green lung of the region's largest populated area is the Parco della Biodiversità Mediterranea, which covers a surface of over sixty hectares and hosts a large number of plant and animal species. Plus, the park is made into a real open air museum by the many international works of art that are exhibited within its grounds.

In this part of Calabria, the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea are framed by the cliffs of Pietragrande and Caminia, as well as by Capo Colonna, where we can still find the tower of the ancient Hera Lacinia temple. Just 30 km (19 mi) away from the Best Western Plus Hotel Perla del Porto, on Capo Rizzuto Island, is Le Castella, an Aragonese castle that looks over the small town from this little island facing the mainland. In the protected marine area of Capo Rizzuto Island, one of the most important natural reserves in the Mediterranean, it is possible to carry out a variety of underwater activities and recreational fishing.

And finally, for those who prefer the mountain, the Parco Nazionale della Sila, located just 40 km (25 mi) from the hotel, is one of Italy's five most important parks. It hosts numerous animal species from wolves to roe deers, from birds of pray to small species, from black squirrels to a variety of reptiles.

The park also includes over 900 plant species, some of which are exclusive to the mountains of Calabria. Rivers, cascades and lakes also allow visitors to carry out activities such as canyoning, waterfall climbing and kayaking.
